Noise on the Can Bus Interface

Added by Jeremy Young over 11 years ago

I have measured a significant 500kHz noise burst on the CAN bus pins of the Industrial IO board. the reason for checking this is I am noticing frame drops from the candump frames by comparing the candump output to a logic analyzer. Are you aware of this noise and how do I get rid of it.

I figured out where the dropped frames were going. It appears the noise is being sufficiently taken care of when the signals are subtracted, although it could potentially cause problems for edge detection since the signal subtraction does not completely zero it out. As for the dropped frames this was due to an old version of canutils. The version on the angstrom feeds is significantly old so I had to download the latest and cross compile it.

Hi Jeremy,

Sorry we didn't respond right away. We were trying to find someone to look at the issue and set something up to test it.

Glad to hear you've worked around your initial problems.

The 2012.05 angstrom build and feeds (part of the latest MDK released reference filesystem) unfortunately do not include canutils or iproute2 packages for the armv5te machine. We have an action to generate those packages going forward. (we'd like to get synch'd up with Yocto, but finding resources to finish that up has been difficult). So local builds are going to be needed until those packages are re-added to the distro.
