PWM signal generation.

Added by Costas Hatzinikolaou about 2 years ago

We would like to use a cooling fan on the A10 FPGA of the MitySOM-A10S.
We plan to connect the fan to the J3 connector.
How do we generte the PWM signal to control the fan?
And, could you suggest any of the shelf stick on fans to use for this purpose?

Thank you,

Costas

Hi Costas,

Is it acceptable to just have the fan always on at max RPM? If so then a PWM isn't required and you can just plug a fan into J3 and you don't need to worry about PWM logic.

If you do want to control the speed of the fan then an FPGA core would be needed to generate a PWM signal to PIN_B15 of the Arria 10.

For our recommendation for a stick on heatsink please take a look at the "Custom Heatsink with fan" section of this wiki: https://support.criticallink.com/redmine/projects/mitysom_a10s/wiki/Heat_Dissipation

We use a clip on fansink for our development kit that can be ordered from Radian. They custom made it to fit the Arria 10, the Radian part number is CTL001 and can be purchased from Radian directly.
